Hello and welcome! This week’s design was a long time coming. Space nail art is one of my absolute favorites, but I don’t do them nearly often enough.
There are so many examples of space nails all over the internet, that it was hard to pick just one design for inspiration. But since I knew what stamping plate I was going to be using, I went off of that. The plate is from Kelli Marissa’s collaboration with Maniology. She might be one of the biggest lovers of space nail art that I’ve seen, so of course, I had to use her space designs. And that meant that I channeled the color combinations from @copycatclaws nails while she was using the same exact plate. They turned out a little different, but I can still see some similarities.
What I used:
- Base Coat: Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
- 1st Color: Polished for Days – Confetti
- 2nd Color: Maniology – Lilac Clouds
- 3rd Color: Maniology – Celestial
- Top Coat: Glisten & Glow – Top Coat
- Maniology BM XL213 stamping plate
- silicone stamper & scraper
- lint roller sheet
- Maniology S011 space nail art stickers
- Maniology dual ended clean up brush & pencil stamper
- acetone nail polish remover
I started with base coat, and then three thin coats of Polished for Days – Confetti. The second I saw this polish swatched on Instagram, I knew I had to buy it. And I got it specifically for a space mani. It’s just sadly taken a while for me to actually use it. And so I happily applied three coats because I waited so long to use it that nothing was stopping me now.
Next, I stamped on some star designs to all of my nails using a light blue-ish purple. To add variety, I used three different stamps. But I made sure to pick the three designs that looked the most similar. And it’s at this point that I felt they looked the most similar to my inspiration picture, but I wanted to add just a bit more.
I then stamped some individual stars randomly on my nails. But it was such a dark navy that you can’t even tell they’re on my nails. At least it broke up the stars differently on each nail, so it added even more variety. After the fail of the nearly-black blue, I went with something much brighter. I got these gold galaxy stickers from my January Maniology Mani x Me box, and knew they were exactly what I needed to finish this design. (I know I could’ve used the plates that came in the box too, but they were a little too abstract for what I was feeling)
After two layers of top coat, because I wanted the stickers to last, this design was done. And I loved my nails so much that I had to resist the urge to show them off to everyone, even strangers who don’t care. It was just one of those good nail days, where nothing could bring me down. Not the amount of time it took, or little bumps in the process, I was just happy to finally add some space to nails.
Hope everyone enjoys their day as much as I enjoyed these nails!!
These nails ALMOST survived the week. But of course, one of stickers was sticking up just enough for me to start messing with them. So there went my pointer finger nail. And then since I was using my thumb nails to pick at it, those went too. All the other nails were still the perfect gems from day one. I just wish I could keep myself under control.
