Memorial Day Mani #2

Hello and welcome!  This week we took advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend and went to Tahoe.  So that meant my nails had to match the weekend.

Since I’ve done classic red, white, and blue manis for every US holiday up until now, I decided to try something a little different.  Plus, I wanted to use some of the new polishes I got at TIS last weekend.  So this isn’t quite a classic patriotic design, but I think it still works.

What I Used:

  • Base Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
  • 1st Color:  Polished for Days – Tiger Lily
  • 2nd Color:  Polished for Days – Tink
  • 3rd Color:  Twinkled T – Glow Up
  • Top Coat:  Essie – Speed Setter Top Coat
  • Twinkled T striping tape
  • Cuticula Dole Whip nail tape
  • Maniology BM-S211 stamping plate
  • Twinkled T holo stamper
  • scraper & lint roller sheet
  • Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
  • acetone nail polish remover

Like always, I started with base coat, then added three coats of Polished for Days – Tiger Lilly.  It’s not a classic red, but I thought the orange-pink shimmer would add fun without being too off track.  Then I placed striping tape horizontally across the middle of all of my nails.  And I got a little risky by not adding liquid latex below the striping tape.  But surprisingly, I kept a steady hand while adding the tealish blue to the top of my nails.

Next, I added a white line in between the red and blue.  I could have tried using a nail art brush, but I wasn’t going to push my luck.  Plus, I wanted a perfectly straight line.  So I added more striping tape to section off the middle, added some liquid latex, and painted on the white line.  Lastly,  I wanted to stamp stars & fireworks over the blue.  So I threw some more liquid latex on over the bottom/red section of nail, and stamped freely.

This may not be traditional, but it’s definitely still festive.  I especially love the stamping over just the blue.  Considering the only down side to this design was how many separate steps it took (there was nothing I could do simultaneously while waiting for other things to dry), if I had the time, I would definitely do something like this again.

It’s pretty late, but I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day

Update:

I’m actually very surprised that this mani lasted through the week.  My biggest weakness is picking at week spots, and my thumb nails wore away just so perfectly for me to pick at them.  But I didn’t!  And this mani lived as proof that sometimes I can resist temptation.  Too bad I only remembered to take a picture of one hand.  You’ll just have to trust me that both hands looked great.
