Triangle Cyclones

Hello and welcome!  I’ll be honest, I was a little short of inspiration this week.  So I decided to pull some vinyls and polishes that I never use, and see what I could come up with.

Like I said, the inspiration was lacking this week.  So as I went through my art supplies, and nail polish stash, I decided to challenge myself a little and use things that I never really lean towards.

What I Used:

  • Base Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
  • 1st Color:  Esmaltes da Kelly – Felinda
  • 2nd Color:  KL Polish – St Clair
  • 3rd Color:  My Stunning Nails – Belle
  • Top Coat:  Essie – Speed Setter Top Coat
  • Twinkled T Triangle Cyclone vinyls
  • Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
  • nail polish remover

I started with the usual base coat, and then on thick coat of Esmaltes da Kelly-Felinda.  I have three polishes from this brand, all with an adorable animal image on the bottle.  But I always forget they’re stampable, and have a great formula, so I never grab them.  Next I just needed to place the vinyls on my nails.  And that’s when I realized it was a lot harder to grab them than I thought it would be.

Eventually I got them on my pinky, middle, and pointer finger nails.  And I placed them in all different directions, just to add some variety.  The other nails were going to be accents.  I used a blue for the offsetting color, but it’s not as opaque as the orange.  I probably should have started with the blue instead of applying very thick coats.

Unfortunately, I didn’t apply top coat before the vinyl.  So can you guess what happened?  I tore off every layer of polish on my middle finger when removing it.  It’s such a rookie mistake, but I was just so certain that the base was dry enough without it.  Well, I had to redo the nail.  But, I decided not to go through all the trouble of waiting for layers to dry, and changed the design to something easier: a plain color!  I added an orange shimmer to my accent nails and called it a day.

I have to say, even though things didn’t go as planned, the little redo made for some nice variety.  Having that plain orange nail really helps bring all of the colors together.  And now I just have to forever remember that a quick dry top coat is absolutely necessary before applying that vinyl.

Hope everyone enjoyed their week!

Update:

I think what surprised me the most this week was that even though I was so down on the inspiration of these nails, they’re actually the first design that my boss has complimented me on.  It just goes to show that everyone has different tastes.  And luckily, I hadn’t been picking at them at all, so they looked great all week.
