Hello and welcome! This week I am reaping the consequences of my horrible habit of picking at my nails. And trying a design to keep me from doing it again.
So if you read last week’s update, you know that I wrecked my middle finger nail. And so I had to shorten the rest of my nails for it not to feel completely out of place. It feels so strange to have the this short, but it’s probably for the best. Not only do they have a change to grow back stronger & better than ever, but my boyfriend and I are moving so it’s also safer for them. As for the design this week, something about these shorties made me think of a Kelli Marissa video where she showed how to cover up chipped nails. Obviously my nails aren’t starting out chipped, but just in case this moving ruins my manicure, then I have the perfect design for a quick fix. I went with the diagonal line for larger chips.
What I Used:
- Base Coat: Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
- 1st Color: Pretty Jelly – Breath of the Wild
- 2nd Color: Envy Lacquer – Fireworks are Cancelled
- Top Coat: Glisten & Glow – Top Coat
- painter’s tape
- Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
- nail polish remover
I started with my usual base coat, and then two coats of Pretty Jelly – Breath of the Wild. This polish is actually one of the few that I got as a resale from someone on Facebook. I normally don’t feel comfortable buying from absolute strangers, but I just couldn’t help myself. It’s based off of Legend of Zelda after all, my nerdy heart just needed it.

Next, I simply put painter’s tape in a diagonal line on all of my nails. I chose painters tape instead of striping tape because I did not want to worry about how messy I was being. And then, I applied a thick layer of Envy Lacquer – Fireworks are Cancelled on top (removing the tape immediately).

This manicure was insanely easy. The thing that took the longest was just waiting for it all to dry. I wasn’t expecting it to turn out so wintery but these colors were just such a great pairing. The flakies in the silver match up great with the flakies in the blue. So I guess the fall manicures will just have to end sooner than I’d originally planned.
Hope everyone enjoys this semi-early winter post!
Update:
Just as I predicted, my mani chipped from all the moving and furniture building this weekend. But since I was prepared, I just filled the chip with some blue, and covered it in a thick coat of top coat. And you can just BARELY tell the difference in thickness. And I could only tell because I was staring at my thumb from every possible angle. Either way, I didn’t pick at my nails at all. And it was all because the fix was quick and easy. I would definitely recommend this if you want nail art, but are prone to chipping/picking like me.
I haven’t thought of painters tape. That’s a really good idea. 🙂

Haha thanks! It wasn’t as sticky, but definitely cuts back on the clean up
