Mystery Morning Fog

Is anyone else amazed that another month has gone by?  Well it may be a new month, but it’s still winter, and that means some serious fog here in central California.  And it’s these foggy mornings that are kind of the inspiration for my mani this week.I started off without a clue on what I wanted to do.  I tried to look on Pinterest and Instagram for ideas, but nothing was calling to me.  So then, I just went through my stuff to see if I had anything that I hadn’t used in a while.  And I hadn’t realized it, but I’ve got quite a bit of polish, stamping plates, and vinyls that I haven’t even had the chance to try out.  Oops, guess I’ve got some experimenting to do these next few weeks!  Anyways, I used Bundle Monster’s Flower Angel (XL351) stamping plate for this design, and it’s on sale right now if you wanted to get it (I personally can’t resist a sale).

What I used:

  • Base Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
  • 1st Color:  Painted Polish – Mystery Crelly Deux
  • 2nd Color:  Essie – Petal Pushers
  • Top Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Top Coat
  • Bliss Kiss Simply Peel latex barrier
  • Bundle Monster Mini Lotus mat
  • Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
  • acetone nail polish remover
  • Bundle Monster BM-XL351 stamping plate
  • silicone stamper & scraper
  • lint roller sheet

Per usual, I started with base coat, and then two coats of the Painted Polish – Mystery Crelly Deux.  I bought this polish during the Black Friday sale, and I actually wasn’t too impressed when I first saw it.  So, I haven’t even tried swatching it before today.  I had just figured that I took a chance with a mystery polish, and it just didn’t work out.  But I am so incredibly happy that I finally pulled this out of my pile.  It is such a pretty blue with fun colorful glitters, and with some great opacity to boot.

Well, next was stamping.  With some decision-making help from my boyfriend, we narrowed it down to gray swirls to kind of represent the fog that’s making its way around town.  And that meant I had use my darker gray, Essie – Petal Pushers.  I’ve never stamped with an Essie polish so I was a little nervous it wouldn’t work.  But it worked just fine! It might be because it’s an older bottle, so it’s a little thicker.  I’ll have to try it again with a thinner, newer bottle.  I made the rookie mistake of forgetting to add liquid latex before the stamp, so you can see on my ring finger that there’s polish all around it.  But I fixed that immediately, so luckily I only had to clean up one nail.  As for the actual stamping, it was a breeze.

It wasn’t until I was at work that I realized this weekend is Super Bowl Sunday, so I could have done some cute football nails.  But it’s too late for that!  Not to mention, I’m glad to have taken a chance on this crelly, and the design was simple and quick.

I hope everyone enjoys their football weekend, and stays safe in this wintry weather!

Update:

This past week I had a few issues with chipping, but it was nothing major.  By Sunday, I had somehow chipped the corner of about half of my nails.  So, I filled them and doubled up on top coat on all of my nails.  And, I’m happy to report that the second layer of top coat really did help.  It wasn’t until Wednesday night that my thumbs chipped.  But since I do my nails on Thursdays after work, I just dealt with it.
