Hello and welcome! This week’s design is a bit of a hodge podge of colors, mixed in to a design that I just sort of landed on.
Since I had no clue what I should do, I started digging through my polish & nail art stash. I grabbed a few nail polishes that I had yet to use, and put together a few color options. But as soon as I found my old Twinkled T Aztec vinyls, I knew I could use all of the polishes instead.
What I Used:
- Base Coat: Cuticula – Fresh Applies Static Base Coat
- 1st Color: Polished for Days – Kiki, do you love me?
- 2nd Color: Polished for Days – Dreams are Forever
- 3rd Color: Colors by Llarowe – Berries in the Snow
- 4th Color: Maniology – Nation’s Treasure
- 5th Color: KL Polish – Pisces
- Top Coat: Glisten & Glow – Top Coat
- Maniology Mini Lotus mat
- Twinkled T Aztec vinyls
- Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
- nail polish remover
I even started with a base coat that I don’t normally use, and then two coats of Polished for Days – Kiki, do you love me?. I bought this polish mostly for it’s name (it’s from my favorite movie growing up: Kiki’s Delivery Service), but it also reminds me of my favorite blue polish: Cirque Colors – Clink!. So it’s nice to know I have a close backup once either runs out.
Next, I placed the vinyls on my silicone mat. But not all of them lifted perfectly, and you can see where the different lines broke apart. I just kept going though, because I figured I could use the good parts on my smaller pinky nails, or piece things together in the end. I also had trouble with the colors accidentally bleeding together, so you can see where I was wiping the brush off on the mat.
After multiple tries, they just weren’t working. Not matter how quickly I worked, I just couldn’t get an entire image to stay on the mat. So I had to piece each nail together as best as I could. I added a layer of top coat over any image that did work, and let it dry. Then I placed them piece by piece on my nails. Luckily my nails are pretty short, so it didn’t take too much effort.
I’ll be honest, I don’t really like this design. I was uninspired going in to it, and struggled the whole way through. But I can’t love my nails every week, that’s just not how life works.
Hope everyone enjoyed their week!
Update:
I have to say, there is a perk to not really liking my mani: I completely ignore my nails all week. And ignoring my nails means I don’t get the urge to pick at them. So as you can see, they stayed perfectly chip free. There’s not even wear along the tips. Apparently Cuticula, Polished for Days, and Glisten and Glow work very well together.
