Perfect Pairs

Hello and welcome!  I’m not ashamed to say that this week’s design is totally cheesy, and obnoxious.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary this week, so I chose a design just for us.  I just so happened to recently buy a stamping plate from Clear Jelly Stamper that I thought I could use exactly for this occasion (and for Valentine’s Day).  It’s called Sweet Pea for a very good reason.  And when it arrived, it came with this cute little idea card to show some options with what to do with the designs, so I just followed that.

Sweet Pea (CjS V-15) Steel Stamping Plate

What I Used:

  • Base Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
  • 1st Color:  Nail Hoot – Cookies & Cream
  • 2nd Color:  Maniology – Chrysalis
  • 3rd Color:  Maniology – Ducky
  • 4th Color:  KB Shimmer – Let’s Not Coral
  • 5th Color:  Twinkled T – Vibin’
  • 6th Color:  Twinkled T – Glow Up
  • Top Coat:  Glisten & Glow – Top Coat
  • Clear Jelly Stamper V-15 stamping plate
  • silicone stamper & scraper
  • lint roller sheet
  • Maniology double sided dotting tool & nail art brush
  • Twinkled T clean up brush, size #2
  • acetone nail polish remover

I started with my trusty base coat, and then three thin coats of Nail Hoot – Cookies & Cream.  I bought this polish from Polish Pickup when the theme was Duos & Pairs, so I knew this was going to be a great base color.  Then, I tried stamping the pears in green, along with the “we make a great pear” phrase in black.  But, you just could not see them.  The green was too sheer, and the phrase blended in with the black speckles of the base polish.

So, I stamped over the green pears in white, in order to restart with a solid base.  And then stamped the pears once more in green.  It was perfectly opaque this time around.  Then I completed the layered stamp with black for the pears’ outline and smiles.  For the phrase, I chose to completely cover my middle nail in white.  That way you could read what it says without it blending in to the background.

After learning my lesson with my left hand, I started with a white strawberry stamp on my right, and then stamped them in a pink-y coral.  It worked perfectly.  Which meant I could finish the stamping layers with some green leaves, and black smiles/faces.  I also started with a completely white background for the phrase, but realized it stood out too much.  So I added a few little dots around it.

Oh my goodness.  These are very cute, very cheesy, and very much what I wanted.  There were a few hiccups with the polish opacity, but I’m still happy with it.  And now these nails get to go enjoy the sun and the beach this weekend!

Hope everyone enjoyed their week!

Update:

Another week where I didn’t ruin my nails!  It’s always an accomplishment when I don’t pick.  Sometimes it’s just a matter if I had to do a lot with my hands or not, but other times it’s about whether I’m anxious or calm.  And I think this week was all about the calm!
