Hello and welcome! This week I did my very first collaboration post, and I was very excited and nervous for it.
It all started when a friend asked for people to join in on a birthday collab for Melody from Envy Lacquer, and I decided to join in. And the decided theme was two of her favorite things: the color mint, and mermaids! Well technically, to be specific, it was The Little Mermaid movie that was the true inspiration. Mint mermaid was a pretty self explanatory design idea, but I still wasn’t a hundred percent sure what I wanted to do. Until I saw this post from @copycatclaws. She used these iridescent wave stickers that looked just like the ocean, so that’s where I started.
What I Used:
- Base Coat: Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
- 1st Color: Envy Lacquer – Look Alive
- 2nd Color: Maniology – Tranceland
- 3rd Color: Maniology – Lilac Clouds
- 4th Color: Maniology – Snowdrift
- 5th Color: Maniology – Shibori
- Top Coat: Essie – Speed Setter
- Maniology Mini Lotus mat
- Maniology iridescent wave nail art stickers
- Maniology BM-SE002 stamping plate
- Maniology BM-S187 stamping plate
- silicone stamper & scraper
- lint roller sheet
- Maniology dual ended clean up brush & pencil stamper
- acetone nail polish remover
First, I used my trusty base coat and then applied two coats of Envy Lacquer – Look Alive. It’s not exactly mint, but I thought it would be nice to use one of her own polishes as the base color. And then I applied the wave stickers just like Serene did in the inspiration picture. It was a little harder than I thought it would be to get the edges to stay down nicely, but I made it work eventually.
Next, I stamped the bubble/seaweed background. I tried doing a gradient from mint to light purple, but they just blended together making a light blue. They must have been just too similar in color, or not opaque enough (?). And of course, I forgot to add liquid latex around my nails. But with a little bit of tape, it came off my skin easily.
I struggled a bit with the stamping polish not wanting to stick to the wave stickers. But I was persistent, and eventually got it on all of my nails. The last step was to add some mermaid tails. I started with just gold tails, but they weren’t showing up very well, so I also added some dark blue ones.
I think these turned out great. Everyone else went for mermaid scales, so these felt a little out of place. But when you look at the group picture, I think they all match pretty well. Hopefully all of our designs were a mint mermaid lovers dream come true. And I can’t forget to add, Happy Belated Birthday Melody!
Hope everyone enjoys their day!
Also here’s the group collage that I forgot to include earlier. The people involved were me, Reina, Kristy, Lorraine, Bianca, and sparkleandpolish:

Update:
In comparison to my Disney nails, these nails look like absolute perfection. It’s such a night & day difference that you’d think this design was on someone else’s nails. I’m sure it was because I was so paranoid of destroying them again, but I’m going to give the credit to some mermaid magic. Because I was expecting at least the wave stickers to give me some trouble, but nope, everything was fine.
