New Years Sparkle

Hello and welcome! This week I’ve decided to end the year on a sparkling note!

Deciding on a design for New Years was harder than you’d think. But it was all because I had too many sparkly polish options to choose from, so I can’t complain. And I actually decided on doing a combination of two designs that I found on Pinterest. One was a simple and elegant glitter gradient from @sarahlounails. And the other is a bit more of an abstract and obnoxious firework design from @nuthinbutanailthing. We’ll see if they work well together.

What I Used:

  • Base Coat: Glisten & Glow – Base Coat
  • 1st Color: Live Love Polish – Last Call
  • 2nd Color: China Glaze – Resting Grinch Face
  • 3rd Color: Essie – Ignite the Night
  • Top Coat: Glisten and Glow – Top Coat
  • makeup sponge
  • Maniology double sided nail art brush & dotting tool
  • Maniology dual ended pencil stamper & clean up brush
  • nail polish remover

I started with the usual base coat, and then two coats of Live Love Polish – Last Call. And holy holo is this polish sparkly! I saw all of the holo in the bottle, but didn’t think it would translate so well on the nail. It’s got so much holo that it doesn’t matter what room or lighting you’re sitting in, the holo is going to shine.

The next step was to add the glitter to all of my nails. I did one simple coat of glitter on my ring and thumb nails. And for the rest of my nails, I wanted to do a simple glitter gradient on the tip. So I started with normally applying the glitter to the top half of the nails. Then once that dried, I sponged on the glitter to the very tips.

The last step was to add the fireworks/starburst lines to my ring and thumb nails. So I grabbed a long nail art brush, and some silver glitter, and started drawing on lines. It was easier than I was expecting, but the glitter was drying on the brush so quickly that it was getting hard to manage at the end. I added two coats of top coat (which I desperately need a new one), and was all done!

Overall, it was a pretty easy manicure. And boy does it shine! Since the glitter is multicolored, the holo below it really blends in well and makes it all look like it belongs together. Now I’m ready to watch the ball drop on tv, and let’s be real, go to bed right afterwards.

Have a great new year!!

Update:

Well I can thank the stress of moving for what I did to my nails this week. I haven’t picked at them like this in a really long time. Of course it started with a little chip on my thumb, and just kept going and going. You can even see the damage on my middle finger from lifting off part of my actual nail. It’s pretty disappointing, but at least it looks a bit more clean than having huge chips everywhere.
